I don’t know about serums, but 20% azelaic acid cream is really thick and hard to pair with mostly anything. If you apply it on at night before your retinoid, you don’t really know how much of your retinoid will actually pass through the azelaic acid cream barrier and reach your skin. If you apply it in the morning, before your sunscreen, you never know if that messes with the ability of your sunscreen to evenly distribute on your skin, and that’s a problem you shouldn’t ignore. It’s really good at calming the skin, but really difficult to balance in a routine.
