I’ve been a victim for saying some not so nice things when I was younger. But people spread bewares on me and I was harassed for a long time. Like told to off myself type of harassment when honestly I think I made a whole rude common mistake for someone who was freshly 18. I’ve learned and grown but holy shit it made me dig my heels in on the issue at the time

isn't it ironic how many people claim to have been victims of bullying, but almost nobody admits to ever having bullied someone? bullies think their actions are justified; "they deserves it" and that's why it doesn't count as bullying in their eyes. people lack empathy overall - it is easy to be nice to people you like, that is not impressive - but it takes empathy to be nice to a person you hate.

a lot of them I see are geared towards being snubbed over fursuit makers, bad quality suits, scammy stuff ECT. which I think THAT SPECIFIC kind of 'bewares' would be almost entirely fixed if we had a hub to review fursuit makers? like not talking necessarily abt tiny indy one person maker type ones, but all the big ones when I first was testing waters to get a suit (then made myself anyway) either had no spot for reviews or clearly cherry picked which ones to display 🤔 like I had a HUUUGE issue with the artist studio I got my first head base, eyes, fans, claws from and had nowhere to leave my displeasure to let other ppl know 'this artist was incredibly unprofessional'. like I think for fursuit related 'this artist didn't give me half my suit' or 'the fan they put in my suit immediately broke!' type of 'bewares' would decrease drastically if we had a furry yelp lmao

Something that really pisses me off about bewears is whenever people say these very serious allegations and then have proof of the allegations and then says I’m gonna just warn everybody about it, but then never does the normal sensible thing and call the police, especially when it comes down to predators, praying on children zoophilia physical abuse along with domestic abuse they make beware of post about something that needs to be told by the proper authorities because canceling somebody online is not going to make them stop doing what they’re doing it’s annoying. Stop calling them out on the Internet to get them canceled. They are still a bad person. Doing bad things put them behind bars.

Not to mention bewares can push what can otherwise be a non-issue into the spotlight creating more problems. Not everything needs to be broadcast for all eyes to see and not everyone's secrets need to be known. (Specifically in the context of someone who's publicly sfw but privately nsfw, that doesn't need to be broadcast to the fandom as a whole.)

The prevalence of bewares is so strong because of the vast amounts of people basically fishing for acknowledgement and validation. Which ultimately dilutes the original importance of what bewares were meant for to begin with. It's why nowadays most folks brush off or swipe past a beware post, because they've grown use to them essentially being meaningless.

I really don't like it when a beware has "proofs" of like an online conversation or some chatroom screenshot, but the account of the accused is totally different from that they are actually accusing, and there is no proof of that account being their alt or older profile. And like, I do try to believe that that person actually said that or did that but with no proof of the connection between the profiles, it could just as much be a totally random other dude who said those things and we just want to slander some other random dude who actually has no relevance to that thing

I swear some people are just searching for reasons to put labels on people like it's some purity arms race. I wouldn't say I'm terribly deep in the fandom, and I still see it enough in the comments - where it's rumour or allegations presented as fact - that I just dismiss it out of hand. It's been abused such that I cannot take it seriously. I couldn't possibly care less about some crusade to sanitize the fandom, and it this point I don't even trust their motives.
