THIS. My dad opened interest accruing savings accounts when we were born and put $10 out of every pay check plus out birthday/holiday money in that account and then when we were 16 co-signed a credit card for us and taught us how to use it properly and the importance of establishing credit. We did the same and started accounts for the boys when they were born that also creates interest and we dump random extra money in them and then all of their birthday/holiday money goes in it. I took it a step further recently and took half their savings accounts and put them into mutual funds investment accounts so they grow even more and we will contribute to theirs like we do our Roth IRA’s monthly.
