@robeverydayfinance: 💰5 Money Lessons I Wish I Knew at 18 1️⃣ Create a budget, even if you’re “good with money”. Seeing what’s coming in and what’s going out is important. Physically seeing it in an app or a spreadsheet gives you more control over your money even if you think you know it all 2️⃣ A Roth IRA is fundamental to financial security No one teaches you about a Roth IRA, but this one tool grows your money 100% tax free. Even if you can only afford to put $20 or $30 bucks in it every month, it’s worth it. You can always increase your contributions as your income increases or obligations shrink 3️⃣ Hitting your 401k match should be a given This is free money from your employer, there’s no better way to use that money. It’s a tax deduction every paycheck and part of your compensation. You won’t find a better return on your investment 4️⃣ Keeping your money in a HYSA is just smart Any money you’re not using for immediate bills and expenses should be in a HYSA. A regular checking account pays you nothing while the banks make multiples loaning it out and you lose out to inflation 5️⃣ If you didn’t want it before it was on sale, you aren’t saving money We’re flooded by ads and huge sales constantly flashing huge “discounts” that convince us we need something. If you weren’t already planning on getting the item, you aren’t saving money, you’re spending what you weren’t planning on spending Follow me @robeverydayfinance for more personal finance you weren’t taught growing up
