This was a sign written by my friend who is writing in support of me because of the racial degradation, silencing, and hardship I’ve been facing from my white Trans (Canadian and U.S) peers in trying to advocate Trans people up here in Canada to politically act for US trans people. After seeing what has happened to me repeatedly, my friend was moved to write the sign in solidarity with me as I had to protest the Vancouver Trans march protest.

and people also are leveraging this idea that trans men are the same level of oppressor as cis men are CONSTANTLY weaponizing this against trans men of color, ime Black trans men / transmascs. i see it literally everyday happening to my comrades over on twitter

people think oppression is rock paper scissors, they think "i am such and such so i am this much oppressed and therefore i win oppression olympics!" but all your identities are happening at the same time and you can both be oppressed and oppress others, but i think its important to note that while transness doesnt cancel out whiteness, neither does whiteness cancel out transness and whiteness cannot and will not protect any trans person from persecution be it societal, interpersonal, or some form of physical violence

I fully want to agree but I think I don’t fully understand why trans men being shitty/malicious toward trans women wouldn’t be a form of systemic oppression? Isn’t it just that any trans man can perpetuate transmisogyny? Genuinely asking cause I want to stay informed

I’ve been seeing claims being made that trans women benefit from the patriarchy by virtue of being male people 😩. I am so curious to see what are your thoughts on that are?

EXACTLY 👏 as a white passing asian person, and also a non-passing trans man, the interpersonal advantages I get for being perceived as white complete overrides my internal gender identity 💀 identifying as trans has only given me more societal setbacks, that wouldn't change if I passed or not, but my proximity to whiteness stays constant.

As a trans man, do not have cis man's privilege. But as a white person, I do have privilege. Even if I'm struggling, I know that I still need to look behind me and reach out to lift up those that don't have white privilege. It's still wild to me that this concept is so hard to grasp

I think people should all have to take a class on intersectionality. The amount of times I have to explain this concept to people is so frustrating sometimes

The argument is crazy, no one will ever think that I’m not really white because I’m trans, but it’s literally the basis of every transphobic every transphobic argument that I’m not a man lol

I appreciate this nuanced take. This is something I feel like I have to explain constantly. I also have to correct cis (mostly white) people ALL THE TIME when they say trans oppression is like racism. No the fuck it's not.

Trans people, regardless of race, are far more likely to face issues with acceptance and equality than Black people.

I think by and large, white people need to give more nuanced thought to intersectionality and the way that our privilege interacts with different aspects of our lives. People seem to want it to be either/or, like either you have privilege or you have challenges, when both things can be true at the same time.
