I bet that was replaced due to the increased electrical activity on the anode caused by the owners present water softener. Probably under warranty yet the labor was extra. The best remedy would be if your area is treated by large ownership of softeners and you see this often(replacement under warranty) is to offer your customers a anode replacement maintenance aggrement or install powered anodes. Your missing real profit opportunities and customer satisfation when you don't

stupid question but is the water heater tank pressurized? like if I just shut off the water line can I pull out the anode rod ? or do I have to release the pressure somehow?
