I made this on a few years ago. It cost me around $120. I made all the braids and it also had lights..

Girl listen to me. I’m also not a native. It is WAY easier/cheaper to hire a veteran mom to make them!!! They also know all the details. For example a Freshman mum is smaller than a senior mum.

Where do you live? If you’re near Dallas- check the Mum Shop if you’re not crafty. Freshman- usually 1 big flower, sophomore 2, junior-3 and senior all out is the traditional way. School colors and minimal white until senior year. If you’re making it- you can pick up bases and trickets and ribbons at Michael’s. If you’re crafty and want to make your own special ribbons- go to YouTube and Pinterest for tutorials. I enjoy making them. We were not from here but the tradition is fun. Pick trinkets that represent the date’s interest. Note that this is separate from the corsage or bouquet for actual HOCO dance

For your first time, I suggest you hire someone to make it. They can be very overwhelming if you don’t know what you’re doing. Good luck!

I live in the Houston area and have a son and two daughters. I bought my daughter’s mums from Krogers. The boys didn’t buy it or make it.

I can’t help you with that , our junior class made mums for all the students here who paid. Parent involvement was not needed.

Since when do the boys make or buy the girls mums. It was always the girls buying their own for as long as I've known. The boys wear matching wrist corsages I believe..... But don't quote me on that!

Oh man I’m a single mom that grew up in Ohio. Thankfully my son is only in 1st grade, but I definitely had no idea this was thing here 😳 I hope you were able to get one at an affordable price!

First and foremost, make sure her mom isn’t making it. I had solid dibs on doing my girls’ mums. 🤣😅

I think it's tradition for the girls to make their own mum and their dates boutonniere

girl it dont have to be huge it all depends on how tall she is nd how much weight she can handle bc ik from experience the big ass ones hurt like hell bc you have to wear them all day long plus at the football game a medium sized one would work perfectly

I'm a native. Buy it. It has to be big. With lights. And cowbells.

make sure you ask the older kids mom's which colors freshman are allowed to use too. our HS has colors for each class level. only seniors are allowed to do white mums. not sure every school is like that, but just incase.

My daughter and I made her senior mum. I would NEVER wish that upon any boyfriend’s parents. That was soo expensive!

I got lucky. my son did not date. He never asked a girl to homecoming or prom. Every year I asked him if we needed to order one. He would alwsys say no and every year at homecoming he would come home with 3 or 4 garters. I would question him and he would say this one came from this one girl, this one came from cheerleaders because he played football and so forth. He just didn't feel like he needed to ask anyone even though he was well liked. Even prom, he would go but never invite anyone to go with him. so, I got out cheap

Good thing is, since they are Freshman this doesn’t need to be a huge mum. Bad news is I could help, but I’m in Dallas. I’ve made my fair share of HS mums as a NY transplant. Never even heard of this till I moved to TX. They are very easy to make but most grocery stores and florists also make them. You can also try other moms at the school, a lot of them make them - just not sure about how affordable they are. Hope this helps!!

Go to hobby lobby! They make them, if it’s not to late! They also have all the stuff to make them! I got lucky!! My son’s date said she wanted to make them! I texted her and asked her what all she wanted on the mum & she said she wanted to make them herself

1. make sure dates mom isnt already getting her a mum. 2. You can get your son a garter (a mum, but for the guys) same concept, but generally smaller and worn on the arm/bicep. 3. look for somebody already doing them because they can be time.consuming if you've never done them before. they can be completely customized too.
