@dr.starkid: Shrodingers cat is one of the most commonly misunderstood thought experiments in physics. It genuinely was not ever supposed to make sense #quantumphysics #Science #stemtiktokcontest #learnontiktokcontest
So if a superpositioned tree falls in a quantum forest and schrodingers cat wasn’t there to see it, does it make a sound?

It is like the “if a tree falls in the woods, does it make a sound” question. It shows how egocentric it is of us to think our observation of an event is what determines its state of being, but the cat is either dead or alive and we just haven’t observed which state it is in. Just like the vibration of air molecules happens whether a human ear is around to receive it or not.

I thought it collapsed because any measurement you make will add energy to it, causing it to collapse whether it’s light electromagnetic or whatever

Sounds like watching a movie (multiple things happening at once) then pausing the movie (a still picture, one instant to be observed)? Then trying to explain the plot of the movie from that just one still picture?

Shrodingers cat was making fun people that thought that “when you dont observe something it will be in different state at the same time until you look at it!” Even einstein agreed with this irony of shrodinger

maybe the particles are just shy. you observe them too closely and they collapse. I've had this happen to me 😳

Most of what you hear about quantum mechanics is just cope. We're fundamentally misunderstanding something. We've no idea what, I hope we find out in my lifetime though. So you get these somewhat outlandish claims that really boil to "this is what must be what's happening according to our model of reality" and people accept it without going "hmm, sounds like our fundamental model of reality might be wrong".

Maybe it’s my own Dunning-Kruger, but I don’t find the concept of quantum particles existing in a state of probability strange or confusing. If you’re shooting dice at a craps table, all number combinations of those dice have a probability associated with them. But once you roll the dice, you observe that you rolled a seven or whatever. I just feel like quantum particles are too small to have causality naturally applied to them, and an event, such as measurement, provides the force to collapse the wave into a set state. Without that outside force, they remain in a state of probability potential. Kind of like kinetic and potential energy. Quantum particles naturally exist in a probability state, and require something else to force them into a set state. The “real world” doesn’t work like that because anything bigger than a quantum particle has enough mass that it’s already been forced into a set state.
