this is so true! growing up my teachers ALWAYS knew when my mom was on a work trip because she always had me perfectly dressed in matching little outfits with perfect hair. my dad had me looking horrible. my mom tells it like it’s a funny little story but the double standard is so evident

100%. Even when I was sick, with 4 kids the youngest 6 months, hospitalized 4 days and then again a week later with kidney stones and a tube in my kidney to drain my urine into a bag I was yelled at for my home being messy. It sucked. He couldn't even keep up dishes while I was hospitalized. Finally got him out of the house! So much peace

It’s also judgment on the children themselves. If a boy looks kinda unkempt and wild it’s all good. But the minute a girl has a crazy outfit and her hair is kind of wild. There’s so much judgment right there. My daughter is five and we hear all sorts of things all the time. Mostly from grandma but also other moms etc. Don’t hear much about her older brother.

My daughter is 5. She picks her own outfits and hairstyles each day. Would I pick what she picks? No. But I’m also choosing my battles and those are simply ones I won’t choose (unless the occasion requires it) I had friends who either had control over what they wore or fought that battle and they judged me hard. And I removed those friendships from my life.

It doesn’t even stop in high school from my experience — I dressed “weird” and had dyed hair through most of my adolescence and I only got comments about what does my mom think, never what my dad thought!

For this exact reason my ex brings our kids to my house before school. I tried so hard to let it go and not go down but then my kids got judged and I got judged. So now I have him come 10 min before the bus so I can make sure they are clean, fed and neat. It’s exhausting but my kids deserve to look nice and he can’t be bothered-

And even in the extreme it’s wild. My abusive exhusband brought my daughter to school in urine soaked snow boots after his weekend. The school called me (not him) to discuss it and tell me I needed to “sort it out.” And that she often comes from him totally unwashed all weekend and smelling. Didn’t occur to them to call him.

my 5yo packed his lunch today, I put an apple in his lunch box and he objected. I told him it's just so that people think I'm a good mom 😂 he asked if i was tricking him and I told him i wasn't.

My first grader picked out his outfit and the picture background himself. Is what I would have picked? Nope, but he loves it, and it’s a picture of him. He should have what he wants.

I believe this is true too. I let my 4 year old pick her clothes as well but I literally don't understand matching clothes. It's probably part of the reason I'm in the military...my outfit is chosen for me.

I’ve never stressed about this with my children. Not sure if I’m being secretly judged or if people are a little more chill where I live. They’re kids, they’re supposed to have fun - not be dressed perfectly.

That’s so real! I let my 13yo daughter wear whatever she wants (according to the occasion), but when we go to my mom or dad I always have boundaries bc I’ll be the one judged if she shows up in flip flops 🤡

My 4 year old wanted to wear her new long sleeve ghost shirt to meet the teacher and my husband shrugged. I walk in and all the girls are wearing dresses with bows. Moms get it.

true. and the answer isnt to invite men into into the circle of judgement , the answer is to.supooet women in casting aside thr judgment of others whether they are parent groups , instoutions and those that work at ithem giving side eye ,visitors at ply dates etc.
