I would put the honey pot into the same category as a toppl or Kong and not a pupsicle type toy. I think the toppl / Kong categories are a little easier for the dogs a lot of times and you can only freeze one at a time. Whereas the pupsicle seems more long lasting and more of a puzzle. And I can pre freeze a bunch at once

My dogs are too smart for them. They rip away things in the way of the treat food. Honey pots work great though!

I agree the pupsicles are hard to open but I can make a tray of 6-7 at once so i always have them on hand. Also It makes her really work for it. I feel like with the honeypot the frozen treat will pop out once it thaws some and she’ll just eat it whole.

I think if there’s a way you could make the honey pot pot more challenging. To me those kind are too easy for my dog and she can get through them quickly or pop them out and eat the whole thing. So maybe something like one of those, but with similar slow feeder obstacles?

only if the lid unscrews! we have the other brand and they make me swear.... it's so hard to open them up.... however we still use the multi step because my dog throws the honey pot across the room knowing if it hits hard enough everything falls out especially after a few mins. he doesn't do that with the screw together version

I kind of agree with you, but the only problem we have with the honey pot is that our dog can pop the whole thing out pretty fast and then he just eats the whole chunk. But my parents dog never pops it out he can lick it for like an hour. So maybe there is way to stop it from popping out like a band across the top or something

It lacks the ability to make multiple at once that’s what the mold/trays are useful for, it would be great if they had more trays with more then 4 pre prep sections in the mold

If I’m being honest I’ve found myself using the popsicle style more than my soda pup toys. The reason is I can prep multiple days of the mold and it only needs one toy. So I end up with a gallon bag full of the treat and it takes up way less space in my freezer. And the one I have is a XL so it can be almost a full meal.

What if the honey pot got a lid? Maybe something with really long sides so you can fill the honey pot, then put the lid on it which the sides goes down almost to the bottom, and then the top has holes or something for the dogs to lick through? Freezing it could almost lock the lid into place if the lid insert had texture for the wet mixture to grip onto. And you could also just sell the lid insert thing separate for those of us who already have the honey pot (we have 10+) and as a set for options.

That’s exactly what I decided 🤣 I bought the pupsicle and decided “this is… a lot” and I’m using the flower pot and other “open” treat cups instead to see if they keep her as interested for as long. Side note- my dog got bored halfway through her pupscicle lol So I’m currently testing this exact theory! So far, I’ve come to the same conclusion as you 🤗

Hi I utilize both types of products regularly but I will say the open top encourages mine to gnaw versus lick! Both good just different challenge ime for my girls

My dog pops them open with her bite force. Also like you said, they can get stuck shut. Why I like the other brand? The premade treats. I like that they aren’t frozen, my dog doesn’t like cold treats. The extra large treat holder with premade treats is a quick and easy enrichment for her that I can leave out before I go to work.

I like both for different reasons. I like being able to make a bunch of popsicles and gave them for the day. it’s more challenging for a smaller amount of food. the honeypot is great; but it’s easier and better for larger amounts of food. If you don’t fill it up then the whole chunk pops out.

Hi, your honey pot looks good if you mix your own and freeze. I use the original product with frozen gently cooked meatballs and frozen gently cooked patties. I also use their shelf stable balls. It can be hard to unscrew but I think they possibly fixed that. I don’t think it should go in the dishwasher and should be washed and rinsed asap. It can be annoying to wash. I think most people who use the original product don’t freeze their own and they buy the shelf stable balls.

Yeah, we have a screw on one and our big dog chews it into oblivion, almost to the point that I can no longer unscrew it. And then it gets gross. Honey pot might be great for my house!

I have toys that are kinda similar to both. I reach towards the one that is more similar to the honey pot for frozen treats because it’s easier and one step. That being said I have a a ball similar to the acorn looking toy that you displayed with one small hole that I put kibble or loose treats in and they play with it until it’s all out! (If you want to repurpose that design)

@Stan The Foster Man: This is how I use my honey pots. I do this but the issue is, for dogs who destroy toys, with the open top, they can get a good grip o the lip to start to rip it apart. With the screw top toys (Which are IMPOSSIBLE to open after the second use) there isn’t a great spot to start tearing apart. Don’t get me wrong, they still can. But for my toy destroyers I need something with a smaller opening.

my dog likes to play fetch with her frozen treat holder! so she’ll play independently for a while then i’ll throw it for her and then she’ll go back to playing alone. mixes it up a bit!

That makes sense. However, the acorn is a 2 in 1. You can add treats and your pup can push it around to figure out how to get the treats out. I’d prefer the holes be smaller for dispensing the treats. And there’s the frozen licking enrichment part. Nice to have both. HOWEVER, I’d love to have a honeypot as well. Two separate toys. 🤷🏻♀️sometimes I just want to grab and go.

I like the honey pot for my mom. She can’t unscrew the others. I do use both. The one thing is my dog is trying to stay low weight, sometimes the honey pot is too much. What I love to do, is take your shallow feeders, mix a bit of food and broth, and then freeze it. Works great!

My thought is maybe make a version of yours but it has multiple holes too like theirs, like a picnic/wicker basket maybe? but no handle because I know my dog and others would easily tear the handle off
