The reason Tengen didn't unlocked his mark because it requires a Sun breather of their generation to unlocks its mark first, tanjiro unlocked his mark at the end of the fight which is too late for tengen to awaken his, if tengen didn't retired and didn't lose a arm he will be able to manifest his mark if he was present in the infinity castle arc. This is also the reason why Rengoku didn't had the chance to awaken his mark during his battle against Akaza. Sun breathers are the keys for other Slayers to unlock their marks, this is also the reason why that Only the Sengoku Era Slayers and the Current Slayers are the only ones who managed to unlock their marks.
