Ride-hailing giant #Uber has officially ended its operations in #Nigeria after 12 years and #Uganda after 10 years, concluding its presence in both African markets as part of a strategic portfolio realign. The decision follows a comprehensive review of Uber’s African operations. The company confirmed that its departures from Nigeria and Uganda will allow it to concentrate investments on high-growth areas where it can maintain stronger local scale. Uber continues to maintain its ride-hailing services in four remaining African markets: Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa. The local market exits align with a broader, major global restructuring announced by Uber. The overhaul includes cutting approximately 3,300 jobs—representing roughly 10% of the company's total workforce. Management noted that the restructuring aims to simplify company operations, streamline management layers, and reallocate resources toward long-term tech initiatives, particularly autonomous vehicle technologies.
