💜 A new treatment journey begins… On 1st July, I started a brand new medication for my Crohn’s disease called risankizumab (pronounced ris-an-KIZ-oo-mab), better known by its brand name Skyrizi. Skyrizi is a biologic medication that works by blocking a protein called IL-23, which plays a key role in the inflammation that causes Crohn’s disease. By reducing this inflammation, the aim is to help the gut heal, reduce flare-ups, and hopefully achieve long-term remission. The treatment happens in two stages: 🏥 Induction Phase My treatment starts with three intravenous (IV) infusions at the hospital: • Week 0 (my first infusion on 1st July) • Week 4 • Week 8 These larger doses are designed to get the medication working in my body. 🏠 Maintenance Phase Four weeks after my third infusion, I’ll switch to using the Skyrizi On-Body Injector at home. The injector automatically delivers my maintenance dose, which I’ll use every 8 weeks. These ongoing maintenance doses help keep a steady level of medication in my body to keep inflammation under control and reduce the risk of future flares. Starting a new medication always comes with a mix of hope and nerves, but after such a difficult Crohn’s flare, I’m really hoping this is the treatment that finally gets me into remission. 💜 #crohnsandcolitis #skyrizi #immunesuppressed #ibd
