Adhd late diagnosis (50). :
Comes down to funding which then has a knock on effect on staffing levels and time the professionals then have less time for patients. It becomes a vicious circle. I feel mind get a lot of funding and believe the smaller charities that do as a good job of better can’t get funding as Mind get a big portion of the mental health funding from nhs.

In my local CMHT, they have around 4000 patients on their books. 1 duty nurse, 2 psychiatrists and a bunch of the most dismissive, unhelpful and uncaring support workers. Crisis when I was under them did things which are outright dangerous and even medication concordance visits were so badly managed I could misuse my meds in front of them. I don't trust any of the services. They just tell you to try walking or other trite suggestions. mental health services need a huge staffing increase so the old and new staff might have capacity to care the smallest amount

You’re so sweet and lovely 💛 I definitely found that the real change and help started when I prioritised weekly counselling with the right therapist. Its meant sacrificing a lot due to less disposable income, but nothing has been more worth the money than saving my mental health.

I am on the GPs severe mental illness register and I have to say the surgery are so brilliant with me. The solution is part prevention. I think mental health should be taught in schools. Teach young people how to look after and improve their MH so that their own self help strategies are the first thing they try. I see it being taught as pre emptive group therapy sessions in schools. Then make social prescribing more easily available. I attended Yoga and Tennis run by Mind which was helpful. Place a MH/pschologist/Nurse in Every GP practice who can also be trained to handle medication alterations for people who will stay on the medication but just need a dose change. These would be low intensity interventions. This is the majority of what most people need so make it easier at the first point of contact. That would free up crisis teams and acute teams to offer earlier intervention for serious MH conditions. Also all people with SMInshould have a CPN in the community.

CPN side of things- they are overworked, underpaid. I think my CPN has a case load of 30+ patients. All at different levels of care required. I just feel like they can’t provide the appropriate level of care to all.
