Pierre Wertheimer :
I've been an insomniac for a long time, like 8 years now, and no matter the technique, nothing works, even meds don't really do the job. That being said, there is one little trick that actually helps if you tend to overthink, like when you just can't stop your brain from racing when you're trying to fall asleep. It basically comes down to counting backwards from a large number, say 300, because counting forward is way too easy and won't actually keep your brain busy. So for instance, starting from 300, you count in your head: 300, 299, 298, 297... And as an extra pro tip, try taking slow, deep breaths with every single number. That way your brain doesn't just have to focus on the numbers, it also has to manage your breathing by syncing it up with the count. Now you're probably thinking, “no way, if my brain is working, it's just gonna keep me awake!” But that's not true. Your brain will slowly drift off because it gets exhausted from focusing so hard, and it completely blocks out all the other racing thoughts. So yeah, just my little trick 🙃
