Immigration Fact-Check 079 🇬🇧 The Home Office laid a new change to Immigration Rules today, 3 September 2026 — genuinely good news for the migrant community, especially those on Skilled Worker visas. Here’s the exact legal text: “A Skilled Worker who has been referred to the National Referral Mechanism and is in receipt of a positive Conclusive Grounds decision… may have the conditions… amended, such that any work, including self-employment and voluntary work, is permitted.” This is HC 584 — search for it on GOV.UK. IMPORTANT: this specific provision does NOT take legal effect until 8 OCTOBER 2026 — not today. Start the process now if you need to, since NRM referral takes time anyway, but know the actual legal right kicks in from October. HOW TO ACCESS THIS: You CANNOT self-refer to the NRM. You must go through an official First Responder organisation — the police, the Home Office, local authorities, the National Crime Agency, the Fair Work Agency (formerly GLAA), or charities like the Salvation Army, Migrant Help, Barnardo’s, Medaille Trust, Unseen, Refugee Council, or BAWSO. If you believe your employer is exploiting the fact they sponsored your visa, report to one of these organisations — they’ll assess and refer you if appropriate. Once you receive a Conclusive Grounds decision on your CURRENT permission, the Home Office can vary your visa conditions so you’re no longer tied to that employer. Educational purposes only — not legal advice. See a solicitor, immigration adviser, or Citizens Advice Bureau.#immigration #tiktokuk #tiktoknigeria #nigeria #japa
