You describe the result you need, and Cowork can work through multiple steps across Microsoft 365 — finding information, creating documents, drafting communications, scheduling meetings and handling recurring or event-driven work. Copilot Studio is about creating a reusable capability. Instead of asking AI to complete one piece of work, you design an agent with defined instructions, knowledge, actions and behaviour that can be published, reused and governed. A simple way to think about it: → Need a complex task completed? Use Cowork. → Need recurring work handled for yourself? Cowork can still make sense. → Need a specialist agent that people can repeatedly use? Start thinking about Copilot Studio. → Need a governed capability that should work consistently across a team or organisation? Copilot Studio becomes much more important. For a Project Manager, that could mean using Cowork to prepare this Friday’s steering pack — while using Copilot Studio to build a Project Status Agent that repeatedly answers questions, summarises RAID items and follows a standard reporting process. And there is another important distinction: automation does not automatically mean Copilot Studio. Cowork can run scheduled and event-driven tasks too. The better question is: Are you trying to delegate the work — or build the capability? One more thing: Cowork tasks consume Copilot Credits, so understanding the value of the outcome matters. The `/cost` command can show the approximate credit consumption of a Cowork task. The tools increasingly overlap. The operating model is what separates them.
