For everyone confused: the scientists didn’t nuke flies hoping to kill them. They exposed flies to radiation to make them infertile/sterile and released them into the wild to mate with the wild population, meaning the females that only mate once before dying won’t lay eggs that will hatch into flesh eating maggots but instead lay eggs that aren’t viable (won’t hatch). However with recent cuts to funding this system that used to keep the population at bay is now crumbling and the flies are spreading.

The wall failed due to DOGE cutting the funding. The wall was working pretty well until then, it was just a smaller team keeping it up. Too bad they deemed it “unimportant”.
