We’ve moved beyond the days when the government could just arrest influential people without a tangible reason, especially someone as influential as VDM. GEN Z Era won’t allow that to happen again. One mistake we keep making is assuming that anyone who speaks boldly against the government must secretly be working with them simply because they haven’t been arrested. We forget that we live in a democracy, where citizens have the right to criticize those in power. Many Nigerians also don’t fully understand their rights. VDM seems to understand his rights and has lawyers who guide him. When he first became popular, he was sometimes reckless with his words and faced intimidation and arrest. With time, he learned to handle things more carefully. So, let’s stop pushing the narrative that VDM is working for APC. Who has criticized APC more than VDM on this internet? Many activists have said serious things against the government and are still free. Does that mean they are all working with the government? The simple question is: what exactly should VDM be arrested and jailed for? I genuinely want an answer to this question especially from the people who want VDM to be arrested by all means.
