My Aunt is a Dotor and she only let's you call her Dotor when she is in office or hospital. She say Dotor is her profession not her identity. People insisting on using a professional title everywhere usually comes from a deep sense of insecurity and a need for outside respect.

worked hard to be a doctor, wants to be addressed as such, why is that so wrong, if i worked my ass off to become a doctor, that becomes apart of whom i am, yeah id be pissed being its not just my first name, its Doctor following my first name, or last name.

It’s weird to expect people you have a personal relationship with to refer to you by professional titles. He does not work with OP’s family, and they are meeting in peoples homes.

I’m a nurse and that commenter is spot on. A lot of people that demand people call them by their doctor title even in an informal setting turns out to be a narcissist who thinks they’re always right and demand full submission and control. This is a major red flag and she should run. He thinks he’s more superior than her and her family, and should earn the right to be considered equal.

I've been a neurosurgeon for 22yrs now and my friends and family always call me by my first name because they are my friends and family. I only use Dr at work or a professional event, conferences etc. it makes me feel weird to have my own family members call me by Dr 🤦♂️
