This gives her really good leverage to chew and she doesn’t have to worry about holding! Malinois are so smart that maybe when she started chewing it while you held it had a moment that clicked in her head that was like “waow dis is so much easier to chew on” but also serves as a great bonding activity! Very sweet girl

This could be a form of what many people call “social eating”! My dog does the same thing with his toys and when he was a puppy he wouldn’t eat unless I had my hand on the bowl lol

Did you perhaps hold her chews as a puppy to prevent recourse guarding?

He probably doesn’t like that the chew moves around so if you’re holding it he doesn’t have to. Lol

Mine does this too, specifically with those rawhide rolls, I think it’s probably a combination of better leverage, a teeth cleaning activity, and a simultaneous way to keep you involved as, I have begun to believe my Malinois will be alright playing by herself with some toys until she realizes there’s people watching, when she’ll then bring it to them so they can play with her. I imagine inclusion may also be a tiny part

I dog sit a bulldog that won’t eat unless your hand is in the bowl …. I mentioned this to the owners and she’s the same way for the wife. The husband doesn’t need his hand in the bowl but does need to sit beside her with a hand on her back or she simply will not eat 😭

If your dog likes it because u keep it from moving around you can buy a bully stick holder. It gives them something to hold onto and also stops them from eating and potentially choking on the really small piece thats left the end (your dog is a mal tho so im sure they will find a way to take the small piece out anyway😂)
