@sarah_webstersdoghouse: for me, it's a two strike rule, you are not allowed to be disrespectful toward an owner for a pelted dog unless this is the second time they have come to you and you know that they have been fully educated on how to maintain their dog at home and prevent future matting. you cannot educate someone while you are shaming them. once you start to make someone feel guilty they go from receptive to defensive. I broke my leg and my personal dog's got matted, a lot of pelted shavedowns that I do are after someone loses a spouse. most people aren't here intentionally neglecting their dogs, a lot of it is lack of understanding or misinformation. this is another reason why I support ethical dog breeding, a good breeder will give you a rundown of the grooming needs of your dog because they care about the puppy they're giving you, and want them to have a happy healthy full life. I have had a lot of doodle clients tell me their breeder recommended not getting groomed until a year old. this generally puts a matted puppy on my table that has no understanding of what's going on and grooming becomes a lifelong struggle because they weren't set up for success and their first grooming appointment was a painful and scary one. my general rule of thumb for most continuously growing coat types is grooming every 6 to 8 weeks for a half inch or shorter, every 4 to 6:00 for longer than a half inch, and every four for hair longer than an inch. generally I like to give at least once a month for all dogs, due to the skin cycle lasting 28 days (they shouldn't entire layer of skin, just like us, once a month) #grooming #groomer #shavedown #matteddog #dogowners

What blade did you use for this? Just curious as a dog groomer

a very educated professional for sure! I am a self titled groomer (not professionally trained) at my vet tech job, and I'm so proud of your attitude! I still groom my own 3 standard poodles, although now I just keep them short. I shave them with 7 blade all over and leave head and tail to make them cute. we hike a lot and long hair is not something we need everyday. I also got injured on the job (spine and shoulder) and I'm not able to keep a fancy coat on them anymore. but you impressed me with your mentality! what a winner! it doesn't really matter the dog was matted, what matters is that they are NOW looking for help! if it happens again, then yes, shame on them. keep them short if you don't like or can't groom. 🥰🥰

Why does he still even have beanies when he can’t even be groomed?
