Find the spring-tension adjustment holes/pins on the hinge (usually around the top or bottom of the barrel). The hinge needs to be rotated against the spring tension until the fixing plates line up. Use the proper tension bar/Allen key or pin in the adjustment hole to rotate it rather than trying to pull it with your fingers. Once the plates are lined up, get one fixing screw/bolt started first, then release the tension tool carefully. Refit the remaining fixings and adjust the spring tension.

with hinge get a blunt knife to pry it open and then get someone to hold it whilst you get top and bottom screw in thats only way. xx
