‘People are getting lazy’ sis I have 3 degrees, 2 kids, my own home and a very successful career. I don’t need to cook to prove how useful I am what the hell 🤣🤣

My missus works part time for her own sanity and to keep her brain active as being sat at home for over a year with maternity leave drove her mad as she had a career. I don’t expect any contribution from her and tbh she’s more into spending it on our child than herself even. She literally works a few days for herself so she’s not housewife mode all week and so our child can socialise with other kids. Bear in mind we live in London and don’t live at home. I pay for everything including holidays at least twice a year abroad and weekend breaks in the UK when we need them. I don’t expect her to cook on holiday and neither do I expect her to contribute. It’s a hard job looking after our toddler. I think it’s selfish to expect someone to cook especially if you’re living at home too and for others - you’ve not even provided the basic needs of a wife as a man for her own place. If I can do this with a health condition whilst working full time and in London - I think it would be a lot easier outside of London. Just saying. You don’t need to contribute for a holiday. I think you need to frame it as you love cooking.

why was stipulations even made in the first place? “If you want to go on holiday, either pay or cook”? You’re just saying a whole bunch of nothing tbh…

Married, with kids, and working too. The comments are right you shouldn’t be expected to cook or be told to contribute when you’re on holiday and should be relaxing. I think people are just coming from a good place when they give advice;

You do what you want cook or not cook but why were you expected to contribute towards the holiday that’s your husband duty. Major red flag your husband and your in-laws expected you to contribute. I would rather rot at home than go on holiday with people like that

You shouldn't have to pay or cook.
if you chose to do so that is different, but why were you given the ultimatum?

Technically you’ve contributed financially and with unpaid labour. Assuming your husband has paid for at least some of the holiday then as a sahm your money is his so there’s now less in the pot. Also there is nothing wrong with being “lazy” on holiday. Looking after a toddler is hard work physically and mentally and living with in laws can be mentally draining too. You are allowed to rest completely and be treated to nice things whether that’s financially or other people doing stuff for you. Please remember to take care of yourself and prioritise your needs!

True! As long as it’s balanced, and all the other ones are contributing too & not taking advantage of you or hurting you in anyways. Things have to be fair for everyone!

Damnnn sis. You’re just digging a bigger hole for you. Why are you told to contribute either way? How weird? Don’t think my husband or in laws have ever told me to either cook or contribute. This isn’t the 1900s what the hell

I don’t think it’s fair to call them lazy or alone.. I genuinely think a daughter in law can’t really relax if she is expected to cook and then clean after so many people. If you went on holiday with just your husband and son then you could have cooked & clean less & maybe enjoyed more. But this stuff shouldn’t be romanticised where a dil is cooking so much on a holiday. If it’s either paying or cooking, there doesn’t seem to be a genuine choice. what if you couldn’t pay but didn’t want to cook & just wanted to relax. If you love cooking for them like this it’s fine but other women also have the right to be totally against cooking for all their in laws on a holiday without being insulted. It doesn’t make them selfish, we weren’t designed to cook for husbands family all the time and Islam even gives us the rights to not do so much for them. Someone refusing to not cook on holidays for in laws arnt lower or selfish than someone who does do those things.
