@drleewarren: Straight talk about grief. This post is in response to a comment from a woman whose dad died. She's been praying that God would let her feel a hug from him in her dream, because all of her dreams have been painful since he died. That comment stopped me cold. After my son, Mitch was killed, for 12 years every dream I had replayed that horrible night. All I saw was the loss, the pain, the fear, and my inability as a doctor to be there to save my own son. But after all that time, God finally showed up and gave me a vision of not just remembering nicer things from the past, but of the incredible hope that I'll get to see my son again, and the joy we will share then. I'm sharing this with you to tell you that grief is a process that cannot be rushed. You might feel stuck, and you might feel like it's going to last forever. The truth is, the pain will last forever, but God designed you to heal. And that healing process, although it takes a long time, will eventually begin to open up your eyes to the fact that two things can be true at the same time: you can suffer a devastating loss, and your life can still have been immeasurably blessed in a way that helps your future look bright and hopeful.
