@scottishbanter1: The Tuscan town of Barga is preparing for its annual Scottish Festival this weekend, when its medieval streets will fill with pipe bands, Highland dancers, ceilidhs, Highland Games and Scottish food. The connection is far deeper than the festival itself. From the late 1800s, generations of families from Barga emigrated to Scotland, particularly Glasgow and the west coast, where many went on to open cafés, ice-cream shops and fish & chip shops. That relationship has lasted for more than a century. A large proportion of people in Barga still have Scottish relatives, Paolo Nutini’s family comes from the area, and the town now has its own Barga–Glasgow tartan, a red British phone box and a long-running fish & chips festival. Irn-Bru and Tennent’s are common features in the town, while this year festival includes the Isle of Skye Youth Pipe Band, performers travelling over from Canada, and even Glasgow’s Lord Provost is making the trip too. #Scotland #tuscany #italy #scottishtiktok
