@that.ginger.zozo: Any recommendations/ tips for a new kitten? We are collecting in 7 days and are so excited! #newkitten #newpet #newestmemberofthefamily #kittycat #blackandwhitecat
please don't use a dog crate, kittens can hang themselves in them (im an experienced foster !) you can get acrylic pet doors (like a child safety gate) where you can safely contain to one room if needed. buy whatever food he is currently being fed, don't change any feed quickly as that will upset his tummy. Don't use wood based pellets as litter, kittens can chew it and it will expand in their tummy, fine clumping litter is better as not big enough to chew on when teething. cat fishing rod toys are great but please don't leave them out as little kitties can get tangled in them. ping pong balls, ball in track toys, soft pom pom balls or crinkle balls all good, nothing small enough that they can bite bits off..... all things you would do for a baby 😂 you can spend a fortune on beds for him to always sleep in a cardboard box !! so just think safe and enjoy your new furbaby. always only use flea and wormed from vets or pets at home (consider a subscription) too x

If you can get a sibling . The biggest regret I have is only getting one . My boy definitely suffers from single cat syndrome 🥰

Buy one of his siblings so he has company as they interact with each other and wear themselves out, and it’s such fun watching them play,it’s no extra cost owning 2. When I got a kitten he was lonely &sad a few days later I went back and got another and she was so happy she had her brother and they constantly played. I now have 3 cats 😁

stainless steel bowls are great! plastic ones gave my kitten a build up of dirt on the chin. we are changing over to a stainless steel litter tray too. we use clumping litter as it's so much easier to scoop

Get him neutered at about 5-6 months old or they can spray in the house (and I don’t know if they will be an indoor or outdoor cat but) they will get into so many fights with other males outside and then their bites lead to abscesses and other injuries. And he will want to roam further making it more dangerous. And then on a lighter note - those silly spring toys! They are literally just plastic springs, u can get a pack on amazon and they seem to LOVE them lol 😂 xx

you should let the kitten learn your schedule. especially when you go to bed! it makes things so much easier and no noise when going tk bed. takes them a week or so to get it but its so worth it

High meat content diet, avoid supermarket brands, felix etc as they are rubbish. Plenty of toys, scratchers, places to hide and climb for him so he doesn’t start destroying furniture. Stainless steel litter tray, game changer! Raised and shallow feeding dishes to help with digestion and avoid whisker fatigue. And don’t let him free roam outside! I could go on🤣

Try and get the same cat litter that its used to, will help prevent accidents and make for a smoother transition

some sort of box with breathing holes and a lid to put kitty in at night (next to you like a baby) otherwise your going to have a nightmare cat in the night while your trying to sleep, did this with my little girl and she's an angel at night time

another thing that may be useful is crate training, our girl went into a large dog crate at night and if we needed to leave the house. it had enough room for her litter tray, bowls and bed and gave us peace of mind she wouldn't escape or get lost in the house when she was tiny, she's 8 months now and still sleeps in it at bedtime and the door is left open on it during the day and she will quite happily choose to go and chill in it or have a nap. it gave us peace of mind and her a safe space/zone for when she needed to be left alone

the best bowls are the whiskers ceramic ones (shaped like a white cat head), you'll need to go on eBay or vinted for them as they are discontinued from a promotion in the early 2000s, have had them for all my cats growing up and even have them for our 8 month old kitten
