@tjscreates: 🥲 Not necessarily. Try this 👆 Sometimes, it’s simply a case of knowing where to start. One technique I’ve used for years is pulling colour directly from reference imagery using Image Trace in Illustrator. Find an image that captures the colour, atmosphere or feeling you’re looking for. Rather than randomly adding colours to a canvas, Image Trace can map the colours within that image and give you a palette to begin exploring. Now you have a foundation. From there, the real work begins. Refine the colours. Increase or reduce contrast. Explore hierarchy. Test combinations. And most importantly, see how they actually behave when applied across the brand. This isn’t a case of extracting five colours from an image and calling your colour palette finished. The goal here is to remove some of the guesswork at the beginning. To start with colours that already have a natural relationship. To give yourself something meaningful to refine rather than staring at a blank canvas and randomly moving sliders around. A reference image can already contain much of the colour relationship you’re trying to create. This simply gives you a way to uncover it. Extract. Refine. Test. Apply. 🎨 Give it a go. 👨💻☕️ #Brandidentity #logo #LogoDesign #BrandDesigner #graphicdesign
I’ve been a graphic designer for 20 years… this just blew my mind. Literally, out loud, said “wait, wait, wait, how’d you do that?!” 😅

I usually go to Pinterest and then type a color palette I want (e.g. summer beach color palette) and then copy and paste to create a palette using the eyedropper. But this was awesome to learn too!

One of those little techniques that’s stayed in my process for years.
Nothing complicated, it just gets you moving when the blank canvas isn’t giving you much back. 👨💻 Hope this helps 🤓👍

So you basically leave the design choices to the vector algorithm instead of handpicking approximate color that better suit the project?
