yes!! it was taught as a passable footnote in history class in my eastern europen country. but even then, the contrast between oh, our ancestors were living in underground huts while fighting hordes of invadors versus um arts and literature and the pursuit of knowledge a bit to the east was stark af

If you like fiction with fantasy elements, The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi is set during the Islamic golden age. It was a good jumping off point for me to learn more about it, especially bc the author included the bibliography of references she used while writing
