As a person from a mail in ballot only state (Oregon here!) it’s terrifying. I voted in person exactly twice before mail in ballot became the law here. We DO NOT have infrastructure to support the entirety of Oregon going to vote in person. That stuff disappeared almost 30 years ago...It’s a nightmare.

As an overseas voter I already have to worry about two postal systems working to get me my ballot. This is just another worry. This primary season is the first time in almost nine years I’ve had a problem. Already requested for the general and waiting.

CA has ballot tracker website. If your state has that I'd use mail in with confidence. if your state doesn't have ballot tracking of some kind I'd think twice

We've been voting by mail in Utah for more than a decade; the in-person options have gone from polling places in every elementary school to maybe one per city. What we *do* have is ballot drop boxes, so you don't have to rely on the post office to return your ballot. I drop my ballot in a box as early as possible, then watch the state website to make sure my ballot was received.

There are ballot boxes we can take them to, also which is how I always vote. I know that isn’t an option for everyone but it’s available in a lot of states.

In my rural Maine town we only get mail now 3 days a week because staffing for USPS has been horrifically bad, so mail we expect on a certain day now arrives up to a week later - but that shouldn't affect vote by mail too much given folks send their ballots back asap after receiving. Folks should have a plan B in the event they need to go in person. Check on your disabled and elderly neighbors.

When I get my ballot I will not mail it back. I will drop it off at county election office which is just in next town. I know where it is located because I have done it before.
