I love ghost fx lenses hahaha they’re cool stuff. This said, if we did do this in post it’s probably be a 2D effect. I don’t see a reason to have a full digi double or go through CG, the one time I worked on a show with it we were doing the cartoon “I see three of you” that merged into one and the ghosts needed to follow a specific trajectory.w We used the one shot that was done in the location and we just separate the performer from the BG and animated the “ghost” in 2D as a layer on top of the original footage i. If there’s ghosts with different performances that need to be layered in the “hero/main” performer (imagine listening to the angle and devil on your shoulders type of shots) they’d likely shoot those elements on blue screen for us to key out and place. If narratively it doesn’t need to be a precise spot or the “ghost” doesn’t need pixel control art direction… this is an awesome approach!
