understand that eventhough most knows English they are not accustomed to the various meanings of english words. chubby means, u are not looking starving skinny like the models we see on magz.. chubby means u r cute and eye pleasing chubby means if i get a chance i will hug u like i would a baby (chubby on) and cuddle like a teddy (a chubby one of cause)😂😂😂

SL beauty standards are not the greatest. Body shaming is normalized here. Everywhere you go the first thing that they will comment on you is your weight. If they call you chubby that means you are not skinny. If you are plus size they won’t even call you chubby and be nice to you. Plus sizes are treated way differently.

It’s pretty simple. When a Sri Lankan guy calls you 'chubby,' he is strictly operating on the affection scale. To him, it translates to healthy, huggable, and top-tier cute. It is a genuine term of endearment with absolutely zero body judgment attached.. However, the second a girl over the age of fourteen drops the 'chubby' bomb? T8he meaning shifts entirely..!! Because women grow up under a microscope of unforgiving beauty standards, they know exactly what that word implies. When she says it, she is essentially using the polite, socially acceptable font for 'fat’..!!

they just trying to get in to your head so you will lower your standards. That’s some effed up way of them flirting or whatever. They humble you first. Then shoot their shot. I’m a Sri Lankan 5’4” and the guys tell me I’m short. Average height of SL woman is like 5’ 2”. Don’t think about it. You’re perfect.

It’s not that you are chubby. Don’t be disheartened. They probably see it in that way because Sri Lankan girls of even size 10 would be much smaller than you. That’s nothing to with body fat but more to do with petite body structure of Asian females. But for someone who looks on outer appearance only, they will see you are chubbier than local girls. But I don’t think they mean it bad way, they probably likes it.

I'm a Sri Lankan and I think it's just they want to tell that you look good in the way you are. it doesn't mean you are overweight or out of shape. In the same time that can be a word of rudeness but depend on how they sounds. In here I guess they are meaning you are in very balance shape not too thin not too over weight

chubby doesn't mean FAT in Sri Lanka. And we tend to be quite frank and direct about another person's weight and many Sri Lankans don't mind that. I myself don't mind it and I if someone says I've put on, I try to curb my cravings at least until i feel I've lost a kg or two. Or I might just have a giggle about it with the person who said it and keep the conversation going in a light hearted manner rather than act like some insecure person. I've seen some of the younger generation however take offense to this practise. the whole "oh you've put on a bit haven't you" is not said in malice or disrespect at all, it's considered small talk among many of the more adult age groups. we just smile and say "yeah men had back to back parties or some thing" or just say "yeaah been trying to lose some weight but can't do it men" ... coming back to the original question, yeah U do look slightly chubby but in the Sri Lankan sense. not by any other standard, so in that sense we have a great beauty standard as opposed to what some others may think.

In Sri Lanka, calling someone chubby is often a term of endearment that means you look sweet, pleasant, and especially cute. Most people here love that kind of appearance. Probably they called you chubby because you have a cute and round facial structure. It's just meant as a sweet compliment ❤️.

I think this is a bit of a misunderstanding. In Sri Lankan culture, calling someone ‘chubby’ isn’t necessarily meant as an insult or body shaming. We’re generally very hospitable and often use these words affectionately. Of course, intentionally insulting someone about their body is different. There’s a big difference between a harmless affectionate comment and deliberately insulting someone’s appearance. We should understand the cultural context too 🙏
