Yes! Then I become overwhelmed by the fact that I’m different. DJ asked what’s the time over the mic, I pulled up and showed him the time on my phone (11:47)- then he said it’s Party Time 😭😭😭. Everyone knew it was Party Time except me 😭😭

The fact that you are putting yourself out there, regardless of all the thoughts & feeling different ect is something to be proud of. May you continue to be your unmasked self & your people continue to appreciate you for exactly who you show up to be. I can see how challenging it must be at times, but your doing good, dont be harsh on yourself🫶🏽

Honestly I feel like being around people who genuinely like you would solve like 85% of this. NT people do and say weird, inappropriate sh*t all the time but no one sweats them bc they like them. It’s only made into a thing when people are shady with you.

me too, i have cptsd so i relate sooo much. try to focus on being present in the moment and don’t focus so much on what other people may be thinking of you. even if you do come off “weird” sometimes, the right people won’t really care or will see it as one of your quicks rather than something to judge you for. ofc it’s hard but getting comfortable in who you are regardless of what other people think will let you enjoy your relationships more

I relate heavily to this and it really doesn’t get better until you accept your ND wholeheartedly. I still miss social cues and get easily misunderstood but I don’t let it eat me up anymore. I’m friendly but I’m not the kind of person who makes friends everywhere they go. I spent most of my 20s forcing friendships with people who just didn’t get me. The few that have lasted are invaluable because they accepted me as neurotic and aloof. The examples you’ve given sound completely fine and don’t indicate anything about your maturity or character. Just think ND people need to cut ourselves some slack.

It’s so interesting because I do the first thing you described all the time. I try to be considerate of others & I overthink every little thing genuinely

this !! 😭 it’s hard enough making friends in your 30s but adding autism to the mix makes it next to impossible !

i struggle with this aswell but specifically in navigating dating, i think this is why ive always ending up crushing on friends because the idea of having to go on a date with no real destination or finishing time makes me feel really uneasy. like the idea of them wanting to leave and me not catching on or the other way around like those situations that take a lot of reading into social cues makes the whole thing just not feel worth it 😭😭

I’m 40 autistic with an autistic child. I don’t have the mental capacity or real life time mist people require, and my particular differences sometimes are too much for others. So it’s either they feel uneasy or I do. Tbh I’ve given up on friends lol

Did you go through bullying when you were younger? I find that a lot of us who have, tend to have a lot of trauma from those experience. Which then creeps into how we’re when we’re adults. E.g asking if you’re cool/weird.

It’s very sweet that you were so mindful that your friend needed to leave. It’s not weird it’s considerate!
