I work in marketing!! I was asked to make a campaign around video brochures - sending 100 little screens to people that would play a 1 minute video and then be useless. I raised my concerns about the environmental impact, how it would reflect on us as a company that boasted ourselves as being “paperless”, and that it would be wasteful (not to mention the e-waste). I got dismissed a week later after 2 years at my job and called defiant because I raised those concerns. They wouldn’t even have a conversation with me about it - ghosted my email, dismissed me and then waited until i appealed to raise that as an issue. Companies rarely look past things “looking cool” and it’s sickening

A lot of the PR I see (outside of the products) is junk. It's thoughtless clutter and the brands producing it lack any kind of reflection.

As a head of marketing. You shouldn’t be making any promotional material that isn’t 1. Made from fully recycled material 2. Isn’t fully recyclable / compostable. We need to think of the environment and circular economy.

Us consumers should flag this issue in PR opening videos, so PR managers start noticing it. Unfortunately until these get the views brands will continue to do it.

This issue doesn’t just exist in the influencer world. It’s in the corporate world at conferences etc. in the medical world with drug companies. Even generally unions, insurance companies, all kinds of companies and organisations are making drink bottles, bags and hats etc.
