I wish schools in America had classes like that. I feel like a lot of us here weren’t taught things like that. And we weren’t taught any adult things either like finances and credit scores and things like that

Our public primary school in Australia we have a kitchen garden and the kids do gardening once a week & cooking. They grow a lot of stuff they cook. They also do things like sailing & archery etc.

The US used to have these types of classes and then they got rid of them because they wanted parents to teach children these skills. But parents don't, so the kids just don't learn the skills. 😭

This is SO INCREDIBLY SMART. There’s been a LOT of complaints in the US with home economics, wood shop, and life skill classes being fazed out of highschools due to budget shortfalls. THE PROBLEM? An entire generation of kids growing up without knowing how to do BASIC LIFE SKILLS — cooking, budgeting, laundry, etc… The fact that China is doing this with KIDS, not just starting when they’re teens, is SMART. Begin good habits as a child, then when they’re teens they’ll have these habits snd knowledge in place already so they can focus on school and learn more complex life skills.

That's fantastic, what the children are taught in school. Actually, that's the parents' responsibility, but they work so much. I think it's great that the government is thinking about this and making things easier for parents.

In Canada they took home economics and shop class out of middle schools and it's only an elective in high schools. Now the same generations that voted to take away classes that taught essential life skills are shocked that a lot of younger millennials and GenZ can't cook and don't know food safety.
