And Jamil and his family are literally forced to live on the Asim premise in houses specifically for the servants and for his entire life Jamil was forced to dumb himself down, do whatever Kalim asks of him, "befriend" Kalim, etc, etc. Not even including that Jamil's first memory was of his parents bowing down to Kalim's parents.

Jamil is oficially a servant, that is his title. HOWEVER, when he describes his life and experiences, you have to realize that "servant" is just a pretty way of saying "modern day slave". There is no way around that. We are all past the age of "well if it says X on the label then it must be X and it being a lie or embellisment is not a possibility"

I dont really think Jamil is a slave on true terms, he is a slave in his story true but his clan is more to a servant lineage and they've had it as a tradition for long generations making him "unable to leave" because the clan is kept dependent to the Asims. But they have so much more grace than slaves, because slave is a concept of people who are viewed as objects, property generally. Compare to the Asims, the Vipers are really dependent and imbalance in power, but theyre generally way more wealthy and respected in their own society. The problem is that its a tradition Jamil cannot break because the tradition brings a very stable income and power to his clan, and thats what makes him a slave in his story, but he is not on any paper or to society a slave.

My theory is that the Viper family used to be slaves. Then generations later, they are elevated to servants, probably because they know so much and probably too valuable for the Asim family to let go it. Doesn't change the fact that they're literally SLAVES, but still, that's my opinion and theory. Also, does anyone else feel like Viper isn't actually Jamil's last name? It feels like it was a name given to them and it just stuck over time.

Jamil Kalim shippers genuinely need to wake up the ship is impossible. I can get the one sided Kalim part because Kalim really appreciates Jamil and at least in the eng I don’t know much about the Japanese but Kalim really does not see Jamil as his servant and sees him as an equal and as someone he looks up to. BUT Jamil is stuck he’s literally suffering because of Kalim, it might not be kalims fault but as long as Kalim lives Jamil is stuck suffering and he will forever have this hate deep inside of his heart for Kalim even if he shows care for him because I don’t think Jamil hates Kalim as a person Rook even says his care for him is like none he’s ever seen but Jamil hates kalims status, hates his power over him and suffers because leading to him never being able to love him it’s a very complex relationship because they still care for each other but Jamil will never love him guys no matter what Kalim does he’s hurt Jamil enough

En mi país, México, durante el periodo pre-revolución existían las haciendas y sus hacendados: los hacendados eran gente que trabajaba en las haciendas debido a un contrato de deuda que firmaron, el truco era que contrataban gente de bajos recursos y los obligaban a trabajar en periodos inhumanos bajo el argumento de pagar sus deudas. If Jamil can leave being a servant and build his own life in the future, then he is not a slave; he is simply the child of an important servant family. Officially, the Al Asim family pays him money and gives him a salary. The only problem is that he has to do his job to the best of him ability, and if he harms Kalim, he dies, yes, but that still shows he's a servant.
