I took a blacksmithing class in community College, instructor mentioned that an older copy of the machinery handbook would have different information than a recent copy, including metallurgy and common material properties, like leaf and coil springs. This is the copy I bought. 13th edition from 1946, with the original owners address and phone number. The phone number is 5 digits. 😂😭

A journalism professor told us that the art of correct spelling lays not in one’s memory, but in the discipline of looking it up. Machinery’s Handbook is there for the same reason.

I had David Ullman as a professor when I got my ME. Great hands on teacher. I learned more from him than any other instructor I had in college.

"Won't read cover to cover." Lady, that is EXACTLY the kind of book I'll read cover to cover. I have two vintage copies that I keep around specifically because I like how they explain tapers and interference fits

As a machinist aspiring to be a manufacturing engineer I reference the handbook constantly for highlevel work

I started as a engineering major many moons ago, but I worked full time and had to stop after freshman year. I now have a masters in nursing but I want to go back into ME. I love the mechanics of things and solving problems. I learned a lot of machining in the gunsmithing program I completed as a hobby. Non-CNC. Alot of mill and lathe use. I’m 52 seriously considering going back to Clemson because that is an itch I never scratched but I have to figure out how I’m going to pay for it

I love my Handbooks, the modern ones and the early ones that give you information on press design and such. Thanks for the recommendations 💕

Having a Machinery Handbook has helped me in "arguments" with the Quality dept. Like when measuring an effective thread depth with a plug gage, where EXACTLY is the start of the thread called from. Yes, it's in there. 🤣

Are there editions that are more revered? Is there a decade? If I have one from the 50’s, should I get one from the 80’s?

Another great reference book I’ve used almost as much as Machinery’s Handbook is Marks Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers. Been using both for over 40 years.

I have both, I also have the first addition handbook that was my grandfathers. Another good one is the mechanical engineer handbook. For cam/servo design it’s rothbarts cam design
