I was blessed. It was just like it looked for us, altho we knew the world was in turmoil. Allowances made us rich in five and dimes for Christmas shopping, the window and street displays could be superb. The glamour of the season was everywhere.

My grandmother worked oct though Dec every year and she did the store windows she always liked doing it and she got a discount for Christmas gift
