The campaign began gaining attention in Shandong in August and has since appeared in other regions, including Anhui, Inner Mongolia and Jiangxi. Large screens and advertising billboards have featured figures such as missile scientist Qian Xuesen, hybrid-rice pioneer Yuan Longping, and Nobel laureate Tu Youyou. The message behind the campaign is simple: scientists should be the “stars” society looks up to.
