The most important things to get right when sowing seeds are moisture levels, temperature and seed sowing depths. Here are some handy tips to make sure you nail all three, ensuring great germination rates this spring! 🌱 🌱 Moisture: seeds require moisture to trigger germination, but too much moisture can inhibit germination by restricting oxygen flow, causing fungal disease or causing the seed to rot. To ensure the right levels of moisture check your watering. You’re much more likely to over water than you are to under water seeds and seedlings. To help further, use a potting mix that has good drainage. I find adding grit and coir to homemade compost in equal parts works really well. 🌱 Temperature: getting the temperature right is key to ensuring seeds germinate quickly, and the longer seeds sit in wet soil the less likely they are to germinate. Optimal germination temperatures can be found online (and in my book and planting plan, which can be found on my website!) 🌱 Sowing depth: seeds contain just the right amount of energy to get the seedling to the soil surface.
