@drheejink: Sunscreen myths that need to be retired—according to a dermatologist. ❌ “A higher SPF means I can reapply less.”
False. No sunscreen gives you 100% protection and No sunscreen provides all-day 24 hours of protection. Sunscreen breaks down with UV exposure, sweat, water, and friction—so reapplication is still important, especially if you’re outdoors. ❌ “Sunscreen causes vitamin D deficiency.”
False. While sunscreen can reduce UVB exposure, no sunscreen blocks 100% of UVB. Studies show that our typical sunscreen use and the amount we use does not lead to vitamin D deficiency. Most people still get adequate vitamin D through normal daily activities, diet, or supplements if needed. ❌ “If it’s cloudy, I don’t need sunscreen.”
False. UV rays can still pass through clouds, and UVA rays (the ones responsible for premature aging and pigmentation) are present year-round—even on cloudy days. If you want to do what I do: Apply it every day. Daily sunscreen is one of the most effective anti-aging and skin cancer prevention steps you can take. #Dermatologist #SunscreenTips #SkinCancerPrevention #AntiAgingSkincare #SPF
