Well it’s partly true that it would go together perfectly with the same bpm. With just the drums yes, but if there are also some melody and both tracks are in very different keys, it may sound terrible even if the bpm is the same.

In the begging I thought the same .. go by the book. But if you feel the flow of the song ( listen not just look at the laptop screen all the time or try to do fancy mixing in the beginning ) it helps in long run. Took me nearly a year to get used to it. And if you can master the phrasing you be laughing. 🙂

when you say typically, that's not actually true. in certain styles it is, but the truth is that in many others styles it differs. explanation is very didactic and help to gain a basic understanding that's for sure.

This is very limiting. You can literally mix any part over any part. Stop making music straight forward and stop mixing with your eyes. Use your bloody ears. Test, fail try again, discover things that work again by using bloody ears. Loop one track mix another in, loop the 2nd, swap eqs, play with damn tracks don’t just blindly follow some script. Feel the music
