@pbsnews: Officials from the U.S. and Venezuela signed a series of deals Wednesday to develop the country's oil reserves. On a visit to Caracas, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright called it an historic day in the transformation of Venezuela. Earlier this week, the Trump administration announced a framework agreement that would allow the U.S. access to around one-fifth of the country's oil reserves. The Pentagon will get a stake in the revenues. U.S. oil giant Chevron is among those looking to benefit and is committing $7 billion to double its production over the next five years. On the ground, some Venezuelans remain doubtful. One small business owner says he doesn't see "any benefit for the people." Industry analysts have also expressed skepticism towards processing Venezuela's crude, which is notoriously difficult to refine. Still, the White House says Venezuela's oil could enter U.S. reserves as soon as November. #pbsnewshour #pbsnews #newshour #news #worldnews #trumpadministration #oil #venezuela #oilindustry

Why hasn’t the full text of the agreement’s been released? You know there’s something shady in there and very small print.

A deal needs two parties who could have said no. The US captured Nicolás Maduro in a military raid, flew him to New York for trial, and blockaded Venezuelan oil exports. Trump then said publicly that Delcy Rodríguez would face something "probably worse" than Maduro if she didn't comply. Then she signed. That isn't a negotiation, that's a ransom note with a signing ceremony. Look at who negotiated it on our side: Rubio and Hegseth. State and War. Not Commerce, not Energy. When your oil contract is written by the Secretary of War, the contract is the receipt for the operation. And the terms tell on themselves. The US takes 55 percent of output plus the right to buy at cost, and that oil goes to the strategic reserve and the military. Venezuela gets 19 dollars a barrel against a 65 dollar benchmark. Reporting puts the term at 100 years. Venezuela keeps legal title to the oil and gets nothing resembling control of it. That's the entire trick. You don't have to own a country if you can own everything under it and call the paperwork a partnership.
