tywin kinda lives in the same realm as aegon for me where the performance is so compelling that it almost makes you forget that the character is an absolute monster

100%. I don’t imagine Tywin as Charles Dance when I read the books, book Tywin is a bitch and doesn’t deserve him😭

Charles dance such a good actor that he brainwashed everyone into thinking he's the smartest character in the series which lost due to luck

Charles Dance is the reason that character is so memorable. Perfect

I also think it’s not a coincidence that some of the best show only interactions in S2-4 mostly involve Tywin. I love his dynamics with Olenna and Oberyn

They struck gold casting Charles Dance. Whoever did the casting was on the ball when it comes to Game of Thrones

Charles Dance could have played Daenerys and still make her better than the books

He's very realistic as the type of upper class father who withholds affection from his children and overall refuses to be involved with their education, but who as they grow up expects them to intuitively do whatever he wants whenever he wants without him even asking in order to socially present as a unified family front but not too unified.

He’s literally no different as a character.

Tywin is a fool in the show. He knows someone murdered the king and isn't conserned with finding out who he knows there is a Targaryon with 3 dragons across the sea and thinks "dragons haven't won a war in 300 years"🥴

The scenes with Arya in Harrenhall definitely help make him more endearing as well

He was way better in the show. So was Robert Baratheon

Every character in the show is made more likable than it is in the books, even Jeoffrey 😆

I dont think it was a 'misunderstanding'. It was a delibarate writing choice in which he was used as world building device whereby viewers especially those who had not read the books, understand the essence of family i.e houses, and how important they are in the world of asoiaf. Tywin makes viewers understand the depth of the houses and how every choice made is because of and for the houses.

this is a recurring issue with GRRM'S evil characters. for all his talks about loving complex villains, the shows tend to improve on his writing of these characters because he tends to make them shallow and too on the nose.

it's different when you're reading about a character and when you've got a character brought to life with a world class actor tbh

Tywin was my favorite character. Of course he’s not a good person, but he definitely commanded the attention of the audience every scene he was in.
