@thatdeafamily: Promise me we’re not tripping over the cost of hearing aids 😂 We’re simply sharing our experience and wondering why insurance can cover cochlear implants but doesn’t always cover hearing aids the same way. I’m genuinely curious, what are your thoughts on this? 👀 #hearingaids #cochlearimplantkids #deafhohkids #asl #deaffamily
I don’t understand how insurance cover cochlear implants even they cost more then hearing aid itself. I’m deaf and I do have cochlear implant as well but that’s in my left ear but my right ear I use hearing aid.

I am with you. I was rejected by Medicaid will not cover for hearing aid included ear mold but only cover hearing test. I thought congresses did passed for hearing aid and vision glasses and sudden I am not cover for those but they cover only CI which cost about 50,000 dollars while my hearing aid cost 4,000 dollars. That something I don’t understand.

Earmold should cost around $150 at least but not $500. No, I don’t think that cost that much. I think they took advantage of you.m. I would file a complaint.

Wow I am surprised that you guys have to pay in America. I am from Australia, we pay nothing under 26 years old. We only pay like $40ish a year for maintenance and fee. Over 26 years old, we have NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) to cover all the funds.

Same thing when my parents found out I needed hearing aids in High School. Senior year to be exact. I felt so guilty that they had to pay so much for something for me especially living pay check to pay check. Our insurance didn’t cover anything and my husband’s and my insurance now still doesn’t cover anything. Just finished paying off my new ones and now the technology has advanced and they are considered old. It’s a real struggle.

So frustrating! Insurance should definitely cover it. My previous insurance listed hearing aids as “cosmetics” rather than medical🙄

It sucks! I found the miracle ear foundation here in Orlando FL and thanks to them I was able to have hearing aids 5 years ago, now I need new ones because mine are already at capacity and I can’t hear well with them anymore, now I am waiting to see if they cover me again for the new ones. But hearing aids are very expensive [Crying]

Insurance is so incredibly frustrating! Covers a cochlear, but not a hearing aid. That’s like not covering glasses and covering contact lenses.

😢 I’m sorry! Hearing aids should be covered, that’s horrible. I’m on state medial and went thru dvr to get my hearing aids covered. They are so expensive. I went 10 plus years without any due to not being able to get replacement when I lost my childhood ones, and as an adult it’s harder to get covered. I didn’t know molds were that much.

Hearing aids is a necessity. It helps gain access in so many ways and areas. Especially for kids who are still growing, learning, brain is developing and connecting--It is SO unfortunate when insurances don't cover or think of things that are more needed vs "cosmetic" or just a preferred choice to have/want/need. Even as an adult, if suddenly I need a new hearing aid or new mold and I can't afford it then it limits me in my job, in my life, in so many scenarios! I'm glad you are bringing awareness to this

Sweet Deaf Mama :
Cochlear implant are more expensive than hearing aids. This is why I encourage hearing parents that one day when their deaf child who only learned to speak and listen without ASL, they are bound to not able to afford hearing aids or CI due to any reasons. They are left without accessibility. It is critical to include sign language while learning to speak and listen.
