@the.tiger.h1: The T-80BVM is the pinnacle of the Soviet gas-turbine lineage, representing a deep modernization of the Cold War-era T-80BV main battle tank (MBT) by Omsktransmash to serve as a high-mobility, heavily armored asset. At its core, the vehicle is defined by its 1,250 hp GTD-1250 gas-turbine engine, which grants it exceptional cold-weather starting capabilities and a top speed of 78–80 km/h, though it is hindered by a slow 11–12 km/h reverse speed. It features a three-man crew, a hydro-mechanical autoloader, and a 125 mm 2A46M-4 smoothbore gun guided by the Sosna-U multi-channel gunner's sight, firing advanced 3BM60 Svinets-2 APFSDS rounds and 9M119M1 Refleks ATGMs. To counter evolving battlefield threats, its protection suite has been progressively overhauled, replacing old Kontakt-1 armor with dual-layer Relikt ERA on the turret and hull, adding modular 4S24 side armor blocks, and incorporating factory-standard "mangal" roof cages paired with electronic warfare (EW) jammers to disrupt FPV drones. Despite suffering extensive, well-documented losses due to catastrophic ammunition cook-offs during the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the tank's quiet frontal profile and rapid "shoot-and-scoot" capabilities have made it highly valued on the frontline, forcing Russia to plan a complete restart of the T-80 production line. This formidable reputation extends to the vehicle combat simulator War Thunder, where the T-80BVM sits as a dominant Rank VIII meta tank praised for its forgiving Relikt armor coverage and rapid 6-second reload, even as players must contend with its realistic real-world vulnerabilities like poor reverse mobility and a volatile internal propellant carousel. #tank #ussr #russia #t80 #military @Jaycup
