pitchers are not pitchers thy are throwers just hard throwers and hitters are not hitters antlymore just singers. the celebrity of the modern players is unearned. better pitchers but higher era ? better hitters but lower averages ? doesn't add up. older people witnessed better baseball modern fans witness bigger hyoe

Pitching is certainly better but hitters are also stronger and more athletic. Ripken is right. Chasing launch angle and exit velocity has changed hitting.

They are teaching launch angle and not on plane hitting. Which is why ur swinging and missing so much. Pitching velocity is not up. The velocity is being clocked out of the hand now as opposed to mid way to the plate and at the plate from older radar guns. In early 1990s they were clocking at the plate as opposed to today where it’s getting clocked out of the hand. Science has proven that u lose 8% from the mound to the plate in velocity. So a pitch being clocked at 100mph today it was clocked at 92 in the early 90s. Up until 2010s and later the pitches were clocked midway to the plate or at the plate losing 5-8% on ur fastball. Crazy how people do not know or understand this.

I played in the era where we had a "2 strike approach " sure swing hard the first 2 strikes but then you have to lock in and put the bat on the ball... striking out used to be embarrassing

Guys get paid for hitting dingers. Looks at Arraez, he’ll hit between .320 and .340 every year and gets paid Pennie’s to the dollar to Judge who’s going to hit 50+ homeruns.

1-5 with a homer is a 1.000 ops and a .200 batting average. Not trying to sound bad but that’s good numbers even with the crappy .200 average. lol.

It’s simple. The averages are down because pitchers are better with more velocity. What Ripken is saying is the exception rather than the rule. You don’t generally have guys at the bottom of the lineup or your speed guys trying to mash dingers every at bat.

I don’t think it’s down at all. This is just the hangover from the post steroid era. People got used to seeing number nine hitters with 320 batting averages and 25 homers. Now we’re back to the late 70s early 80s where your second basement hits 220 with six home runs
