When I considered doing ride share I called my insurance first to understand coverage. Thats adulting.

It’s almost as if the rideshare programs warns you of this when you sign up in the first place!

I genuinely think these platforms are a scam against the drivers because it costs a TON of money each month in order to do it the right way. Between business insurance, regular car details, maintenance and excessive depreciation from mileage, it’s not worth it.

I looked into doing Uber and what not here in New York and the extra insurance cost was going to be more than $300 a month on top of my existing insurance. All these rideshare drivers have got to be lying to their insurance company or just driving around with no coverage because you're not making money if you're paying that much for your car insurance

State Farm covers this at no extra cost. It just comes with our policy. And yes, I’ve checked. They’re the only company that does it.

All of those wide share and food delivery app companies are completely taken advantage of their drivers in so many ways. It’s absolutely disgusting.

If your own insurance doesn't cover you when you're heading to pick up a client and the rideshare company doesn't cover you when you're picking up a client, isn't it technically illegal for you to drive at that point? So basically two companies are causing and the illegal situation to occur. And they need to take the rideshare company and their insurance to court, because somebody needs to cover them during that time.

I explain this ALL the time. It's insane. I wish ride share companies were more upfront about this situation.

My husband did Lyft as a side gig on the weekends. As soon as he decided to do it, I put the ride-share endorsement on our policy. I don’t rely on platform insurance. It heavily increases your personal policy premiums tho. 😭

I could tell you felt really bad for this person. It’s always hard to deliver bad news to someone who’s being really nice or if they’re going through a lot, I struggle with those 😭

I can understand needing ride share for uber and Lyft. Why in the heck do I need this to deliver food/groceries? It’s no different than me going to get my own take out and groceries 😫

I stopped driving as an uber/lyft driver for this reason. The Lyft app prompted me to turn into an ally that didn’t exist while picking up a passenger. It was dark so I couldn’t see the curb. The impact completely fucked up my bumper which put me in the same position as this person. And I couldn’t afford to fix it, so the bumper eventually fell off and the entire car started to deteriorate under the hood from there. Don’t drive ride share. It’s not worth it!!!

i actually moved my ridshare car to another insurer so that there was a ride share policy because State Farm doesn't have ride share coverage in NC

these platforms are so predatory. we have different laws here, and it's why it took so long for rideshare to become a thing. here your workplace's insurance or workplace comp cover's you for your direct commute in a lot of cases, especially if driving in your own vehicle and if you've worked overtime, and your exhaustion is the reason for the accident, they can be held liable for the accident too. if you stop for groceries, or something else, it can mess up your coverage, but this sort of thing would be absolutely not okay.

This is exactly why I don’t do it. My premiums are high enough. I don’t need the additional risk

“how are we supposed to know something like that?” -i know people hate to be told this, but stop agreeing to or signing shit without reading it. it takes time, yes. but is that worth being uncovered in an accident?

Rideshare isn’t even worth it alone from just wear and tear on your vehicle. Even back when the apps paid more the math showed rideshare wasn’t worth it and now drivers make even less

I feel bad that this kind of thing happens because people don't know or fully understand the caveats, but why are we signing up for things without looking up anything about them beforehand these days? There is so much info out there on this kind of stuff.
