There was a point where I was living holiday by holiday. (“Just make it till Halloween.” “Just make it till Christmas”) I didn’t want to make anyone sad near a holiday, and I think some part of me was hoping that the fleeting happiness I felt during those holidays would be enough to keep going.

I find a lot of meaning in staying alive for all the people I will make happy now and in my future. A joke, a compliment, a comforting talk, I can provide these things to make people happy. I will keep living so others can experience one more kind person in the world. A lot of people aren’t very nice, they let useless ideas blind them to the fact; unless they are hurting people, people deserve respect!

I’ll never cause that grief. I couldn’t let my parents lose their only child after they were told they would never have children, my childhood friend lose her older sister figure, my best friend lose hers. The grief I felt when I lost my aunt to cancer isn’t one I will ever bring to those I love because of a singular choice.
