@perfuzion: 🛕 Songkran’s Spiritual Side at Bangkok’s Reclining Buddha: Our visit to Wat Pho during Songkran gave us a fascinating look at the traditional side of Thailand’s New Year. I received a water blessing for purification and good fortune, while worshippers ceremonially bathed Buddha images with scented water for blessings in the year ahead, including Buddhas representing the different days of the week. We also watched rows of monks chanting during a Buddhist observance, saw a money tree covered in offerings for merit-making and walked among colorful sand pagodas decorated with flags. The sand tradition was especially interesting: worshippers traditionally bring sand back to the temple during Songkran, symbolically replacing the grains carried away on visitors’ feet throughout the year, then shape it into small chedis as an act of merit-making. And while wandering past rows of golden Buddhas, a black cat casually strutted across our path like it had been waiting all day for its cue. 🐈⬛✨ #WatPho #Songkran #BangkokThailand #ThailandTravel #RecliningBuddha @Scott Perdue
